Fall 2017 Winter Closing Information
As you're preparing for exams, please keep in mind these Closing Notes.  Following them will help keep you and your room safe for your return.​


When is Winter Break?

Residence Halls will be closed from December 16, 2017 through January 6, 2018.  During this time, most Queens offices (including the Dining Hall) will be closed.  Campus Police (704-337-2306) and Campus Services (704-337-2201) will be open over the break.  
But what if I need to stay over the break?

If you will be here for any part of the break, please complete the Winter Break Stay Form, found here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2017WBSF.   If you do not complete this form, your card access will be cut off over the break.  Please complete the form by Monday, December 11th at 9am.

Will I get a new roommate or suitemate?

Because we have new students arriving in the Spring, you could get a new roommate or suitemate if you have a vacant bed in your room or suite.  Please consolidate all of your items to your side of the room/suite before you leave for the holidays.  ​
​Will RAs inspect my room?

RAs will complete Health & Safety Inspections on December 16th to ensure that the following steps are completed.  Please complete these before departing:
  1. Take any valuables with you, and make sure to lock your door behind you. 
  2. If you have a fish, please take it with you.  They typically don't survive on their own :( 
  3. Unplug all devices (clocks, lamps, etc) and cut off all lights.
  4. If you are on the first floor, remember to lock your windows and close your blinds.
  5. Throw away any perishable food items (milk, eggs, cheese, fruit, etc).​  Make sure all non-perishable food items are tightly closed and sealed.
  6. Defrost your microfridge (prior to leaving) and leave it unplugged.  If you have a full sized refrigerator​ in your suite, please leave it plugged.​
  7. ​Remove all trash from your room and put in the trash room.​​​
​Will Campus Services come by room?

If you're staying for the break, please be aware that Campus Services will change the AC/Heat unit filters in all residence hall rooms over Winter Break.  Any requested repairs may happen during this time.  
What if I'm not returning?

If you are leaving for Winter Break and not returning to Queens, we'll miss you.  As soon as possible, please let your RA know.  You have two checkout options:
  1. Regular - You'll need to schedule a time to have your RA check your room for damages.
  2. Express – Please click this link to complete the express form, found here: https://queens-yhcyj.formstack.com/forms/express_checkout
  3. Make sure to return your room key to Campus Police and your mailbox key to the Mail Center.​ 
​What if I don't do something I'm supposed to?

  • Failure to properly defrost your microfridge and/or clean your room will result in a $25 cleaning fine.
  • Failure to checkout of your room properly will result in a $100 fine
  • Failure to return your room key will result in a $100 fine.​​
