Love is Respect Week – Toxic Masculinity
Facilitated by Title IX Office & Safe Alliance
· Tuesday, February 12 @ 6pm (Sykes 226)
Relationships can be hard work. For men, certain perceptions of what it means to be a man in a relationship can be harmful and create challenges. Toxic masculinity are the socially-constructed attitudes that describe the masculine gender role as violent, unemotional, sexually aggressive, etc. These attitudes have been stablished as severely outdated, but are often promoted in outrageous ways through media. Come hear from Tierra Kirkland from Safe Alliance about how toxic masculinity can impact relationships and how to avoid its impact on your own.
1. Consider your own relationships or those of others (friends, family, etc.), what signs of toxic masculinity have you seen in those relationships and how have those aspects impacted those involved?
2. Discuss what you learned from this session and how you would apply it to your own life?
